What It Means to Be a Member
Right now, Nest & Neighbours is in an exciting stage of growth. We are gathering a group of committed families and individuals to co-create our future neighborhood. Becoming a member at this stage means joining us on the journey of building our community from the ground up.
We are:
- Actively searching for land – visiting potential properties, talking to owners, and assessing possibilities.
- Meeting weekly online – to welcome new members, share who we are, review our progress, and plan next steps.
- Gathering in person – for social events, site visits, and community-building activities.
- Collaborating as a team – sharing responsibilities such as outreach, marketing, and organizing events.
When you first join, you will begin as an observer (or “shadow” member).
This allows you to get to know us, understand our vision, and decide if cohousing is the right fit for you. During this time, we ask that you:
- Review our resources to build a clear understanding of cohousing.
- Ask questions freely so you know what membership involves.
- Participate in our gatherings to experience our community culture.
Because we are building a neighborhood where we will truly be each other's neighbors, it's essential that we spend time together and grow trust.
We also encourage members to explore skills that support community life, such as:
Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
Building understanding and empathy through compassionate communication
Sociocracy and Facilitation
Creating inclusive decision-making processes and effective group dynamics
Conflict Resolution and Teamwork
Building strong relationships and resolving challenges together
These practices will help our future community thrive and ensure that everyone feels heard, respected, and supported.
